Bogushop Kendo Guide

Complete Keikogi Guide: Types, Fabrics & How to Choose

Learn about different types of kendo keikogi, including cotton, jersey and performance fabrics, with their purpose, advantages and disadvantages.

Use the product page chart first. This is Bogushop's general Keikogi chart. Some fabrics and models have their own sizing, so a chart shown on the product page should always take priority.
1

Measure your height

Stand barefoot against a wall, looking straight ahead. Measure from the floor to the top of your head and record the result in centimetres.

2

Find your starting size

Choose the row with the height closest to yours. This gives you a practical starting point for a standard Keikogi.

3

Confirm the garment fit

If possible, compare measurements A–D with a Keikogi that already fits you well. Lay that garment flat before measuring it.

How to read the chart

The height column suggests a starting size. Measurements A, B, C and D refer to the garment dimensions marked on the drawing.

Compare with a Keikogi you own

  • Fasten and smooth the Keikogi on a flat surface without stretching it.
  • Measure the same A–D points shown in the diagram.
  • Compare those numbers with the chart to see which size is closest to your preferred fit.
  • Expect normal manufacturing differences of approximately 1–2 cm.

Between two sizes?

Consider your build and how you prefer the Keikogi to fit. If your height suggests one size but the garment dimensions suggest another, contact Bogushop with your height and the product link before ordering.

Neat coverageThe jacket should overlap securely at the front and remain comfortably tucked under the Hakama during practice.
