How to Measure for Bogu

Check the product page first. Bogu sizing can vary by model and maker. If the product page has its own chart or asks for extra measurements, follow that chart and use this guide for measuring technique. Record centimetres and do not add extra room unless the chart specifically tells you to.

01 · Head protection

How to measure for a Men

The most important men measurement follows the face from the point of the chin, over the crown of the head and back to the chin. Keep your mouth closed and look straight ahead.

Primary measurement: chin to crownStart at the tip of the chin. Run the tape in front of the ears, over the fullest part of the crown and return to the chin.

Remove hats and flatten bulky hair as it would sit inside the men.
Keep the tape against the face and head without pulling it tight.
Record the result in centimetres.
If the product chart asks for forehead circumference or chin-to-eye height, record those separately as shown in the diagram.

Accuracy check

The tape should pass over the crown, rather than the back of the head. A low path can produce a men that is too small.

02 · Hand protection

How to measure for Kote

Kote sizing uses hand length and palm circumference. Measure your dominant hand and compare both hands if one is noticeably larger.

Hand lengthMeasure from the first wrist crease at the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger.

Palm circumferenceWrap the tape around the widest part of the palm just below the knuckles, keeping the thumb outside the loop unless the product chart says otherwise.

Keep the hand relaxed with the fingers together.
Keep the tape flat and level around the palm.
Record both measurements in centimetres.
If the two measurements point to different sizes, send both numbers to Bogushop before ordering.

03 · Torso protection

How to measure for a Do

Do sizing is normally based on height and waist. The waist measurement helps confirm the correct width and fit around the torso.

HeightStand barefoot against a wall with your heels down and eyes facing forward. Measure from the floor to the top of the head.

WaistMeasure around the body at the position shown on the Bogushop chart. Keep the tape horizontal and breathe normally.

Wear a light shirt or keikogi rather than a bulky jacket.
Do not pull in your stomach or add extra allowance.
Record height and waist in centimetres.
Use the product-specific chart if a particular do asks for another torso measurement.

04 · Waist protection

How to measure for a Tare

Tare sizing also uses height and waist. A correct measurement helps the obi wrap securely while the front panels provide suitable coverage.

Height and waistUse your barefoot height and measure the waist at the location shown on the chart, with the tape level around the body.

Stand upright in a relaxed position.
Keep the measuring tape flat and comfortably snug.
Record the measurements in centimetres without rounding by several centimetres.

Every number was measured at least twice.
No extra allowance was added.
The product's own chart was checked first.
